Prisma

So, I finally got me some art supplies and prismacolors... expensive little buggers! I know they're awesome colored pencils, but to get 72 at an art store is like robbery! Thank goodness for amazon! Anyway, I got them last Saturday and have yet to brake them in. I could say I've been busy, which I have, but there have been moments when I've wanted to draw and color with them but just haven't. It's not that I don't want to. I guess, its just the fear of not being very good at it. I've always just been a sketcher mediocre, at best, but over the past year, I believe, I've gotten way better. I don't know, I was barely drawing anything. I would pretty much just doodle outlines, really, scared to finish it thinking I might mess up and ruin the whole thing. Lame, I know, but thats just the way I am at times.

Finished piece for my tattoo decided on a humming
bird instead of a butterfly because they're
just so fantasy like with how fast and
beautiful they are.
One day, though, I started to draw a horse for my daughter, her favorite animal. Well, as I was shading, the horse started coming to life, more real looking with every muscle I shaded. Yes, I startle myself with every drawing I do, every idea I come up with, and every time they turn out good.  As amazed as I was, when I finished the horse I was still afraid to go forward with the overall picture. I knew what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go with it, but I was too afraid of making, one of the best drawings I've ever done, into a total disaster. So I spent, I don't know, probably a year, maybe a little less, of not touching the picture, admiring the fact that I could draw(and shade) so well when I hardly have time to practice, and boy, all the neglect I've shown my art over these many years. A day came when I decided that if I could draw such a beautiful horse, and wanted so bad to finish my idea instead of always just "talking/thinking" about it finally convincing myself that it will be so awesome when I do finish a drawing, and so good, too. When I did pick up my picture again it definitely surprised me, after a year of not drawing,  how easy it was to turn outlines into a masterpiece while shading. How good could I be if I just drew more, I ask myself? So over the past 2 months I've drawn quite a bit. I have some solid foundations of black and white pictures.

One day I even decided to pick up some regular map pencils and try my had with color and  surprised myself again at how easy it was to draw with them. Its not so easy that I can sit down and in 30 minutes have a full picture done but after a couple hours I have a pretty good foundation and a solid picture I could potentially add to if I wanted. Soon I tell you, I will pick up these prismacolors and figure out whether I can figure them out or not! lol  I'm definitely excited!  The anticipation of seeing if I can pull off a sweet piece is getting me more and more antsy my fingers are twitching and soon I will have my colored pencil trance. :)

Well guys I'm off but I'll leave you with a few closing pictures :)

making Homemade pizza with my little one...

Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?

Went to see The Avengers last night it was Awesome! I mean come on super heroes unite! It was action packed 3D (which usually bothers me quite a bit but didn't with this movie... still baffled about that) and, I couldn't believe it, but some substantial humor! Hulk had to be my favorite, funny guy he was. And this redheaded chick, Romanoff, I couldn't figure out who she was at first... I thought maybe Cat Woman? Or Carmen San Diego?! I mean she does have red hair, right?? lol ( people always sing me the theme song because my middle name is Carmen and for some odd reason people just can't resist the temptation. haha :) But, no, it was Black Widow saved by the beloved Captain America! I liked her moves, though, and the actress Scarlett Johansson. Loved all the actors/superheroes, really. I thought they did a solid job with this one. I'll definitely watch it again when it comes out on DVD, no doubt. For those of you who stayed a moment after the credits you may have seen the two minute clip at the end looks like there might be a second one. Who am I kidding?? With how well The Avengers did on opening weekend there's no way they won't make a second one. Oh, and how about The Hunger Games?! Wow, 4 weeks number one... last movie that did that was Avatar.  I mean, it was a good movie, loved their semi to unknown characters. Jennifer Lawrence (aka Katniss Everdeen) did an outstanding job, in my opinion. My only complaint with The Hunger Games is maybe it was just a little hard to follow in the beginning if you hadn't read the book (which I highly suggest everyone should do... amazing, just amazing). I would have liked it much better, I believe, if Katniss also narrated the entire movie as she did in the book. Overall I'd have to say I was really happy with the end result definitely excited to see the 2nd one!

In other news, I'm almost finished with a very special drawing for my little girl. I'm hoping towards the end of  summer it will become a tattoo. This will be my second tattoo my first is a symbol (means friendship) but this one will be much, much bigger. Let me take a snap shot of it so you can see...

The tattoo will be in mostly black and white except the eyes
will be blue(my little girls eyes are blue)  then the flowers and vines will be in color as well.

I still have shading to do, as well as adding a few last details a leaf here a flower there maybe a tiny butterfly but mostly I'm finished. I've been drawing and contemplating the idea of a big tattoo for a very long time and now I've finally committed. Super excited to see this tattoo come to life. My little girl absolutely loves horses.  No matter what, if we're wishing on a star, a fountain, or birthday candles her wish is always the same. She wishes to have her very own baby horse! I get it, I really do, they're so beautiful, strong, and majestic not to mention the fact that you can ride on them! So this will be a tattoo for her until that day comes when I get her that horse. lol

Decorated this here cake today thought it turned out pretty good. I do realize now that the starfish was just a tad bigger than the towel and flip flops. haha! I still really like it I think it turned out very cute... you live and you learn, right!? You see, I have no one teaching me, nor any kind of cake decorating books, and not even all the tools or space I really need for cake decorating, so everything I do is all Me. My ideas, hand drawn, my colors, icing, cake and all. Most people that come in over here on the island have no idea how they want it decorated and since I have no books or pictures for them to look at they just tell me their theme or what they like and after that I usually have free reign for how its decorated. So far, though, everyones really loved and enjoyed my cakes :) (fingers crossed.)

Now to end this here post on a tasteful note, dinner I just devoured. Seasoned steak with an herbed Boursin cheese topping, garlic and herb pasta, and to top it off lemon garlic baked broccoli and mushrooms topped with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. Yummy.

Always remember, don't be pushed by your problems but led by your dreams,

Krista

Something Simple

I want to start this new blog out as something simple for when I feel the need to write no matter who reads or comments.  My name is, Krista, I'm 25 with a 4 year old little girl named Aubriannah. I've been around the blog sphere  before and have recently felt the need to return. Don't know why... maybe its because I missed some of my fellow bloggers, maybe I miss writing, or maybe all of the above... who knows really. What I do know is I didn't want to go back to my old blog because I feel like I want to go in a different direction start new start fresh... in case you were wondering.

My life has been in a whirl wind for as far as I can remember and I can remember pretty far back, I might add. As a child it was always harder for me to learn then other kids. I have a mild case of dyslexia and over the years I've tried to over come it with books and writing. However, my writing skills are far from perfect, in fact, they're probably terrible but all the same I enjoy it. (So if there's a comma out of place or a period where there shouldn't be please forgive me.lol ) For the most part I seem to have my dyslexia under control but there are definitely times when it shows it ugly face. For instance...

if you can see I spelled Birthday Brithday!!

And YES I do this for a living and YES this has happened more than once! You know the bad thing is I  decorated this cake, took a picture of it, gave it to my customer and all the while I never even noticed it wasn't right!  Days later when I was looking at this picture again I finally realized what I had done!! Talk about embarrassing!!  But what could I do at that point!?! Since then, though, I double check every cake I send out and hope my eyes catch it...
Arghhh mate! There be Treasure!
and this is a cake well done!
My little girls cake to be exact she turned 4 in November!!

But luckily decorating cakes isn't all I do! lol... I cook, bake, and cater when I can, as well. (Cater on my own, as well as for my job.) All things I love to do and have pretty much taught myself. No, I've never been to college never took any kind of classes for baking or decorating cakes never even knew this was what I wanted to do or could do. I can make some of the best banana bread, cakes, anything yummy and sweet that you've ever had though! lol...  I'm a vizualist. I'm one of those people who can stand back watch one time and pretty much be able to conquer it when it comes to things like art and cooking. Gods gift to me-- and one I treasure. Art has been a hobby and a joy in my life for as long as I can remember but cooking and baking have just recently become another form of art to express myself (and make a living!) It's a great feeling to know what you want to do with your life. I hadn't known until about 2 years ago when I got a job at a small restaurant/bakery on an Island. I just knew I had to do something with my life to make money somehow.. I mean we all do, right. Then, god blessed me with an amazing job and the rest is history! I officially know where I want to go with my life and it's a darn good feeling. I feel super lucky to have found that I can use my art skills to make a living. Even just cooking breads, sandwiches, and regular meals when you place the food on a plate you can make it look as wonderful as it tastes. I mean look at how beautiful food can be....
Chicken Veg Lo Mien! YUM!!
Stuffed shells, fresh green beans and toasted bread! YUMM!!

I guess overall you could say I'm thankful and excited to see where I go from here.

Well, guys, I think I've chatted you up enough for today. I'll leave you with a picture of my view to work everyday....

 Thanks for reading
